Western Red Cedar Slats are selected from the highest grade available and machined to a smooth finish on all four sides with a small pencil round (radius) on each corner for a beautiful aesthetic look, adding a touch of class to any garden or outside living space.
Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata) is a naturally durable species', having a service life of approx. 60 years without the need for additional treatment.
Canadian Western Red Cedar is much slower grown than British Western Red Cedar resulting in a denser, darker Heartwood with more colour variation.
The timber is light in weight making it easy to handle whilst retaining structural rigidity and available in 1.83m lengths.
As a guide you’ll require 2 bundles (16 boards per bundle) of slats to cover a 6ft (1830mm) x 6ft (1830mm) area.
Standard Softwood treated posts can be used when using the slats for fencing and we recommend stainless steel countersunk screws or annular ring nails for fixing.
Ultimately timber is a natural product and will be prone to movement in situ, we therefore advise that vertical supports are used behind the horizontal slats to keep any movement to a minimum.
All timber directly exposed to constant sunlight will over time change/weather to a silvery/grey colour. To maintain the original brown/red colour of the timber will require applying a UV Oil periodically.
